I LOVE to travel. I used to travel quite a bit actually and even having my first child didn’t slow me down. During the first year of my oldest son’s life you could find me carrying him in a sling as I walked in Times Square or hopped a subway from Jersey to Downtown Manhattan. I took him to Chicago to see Shedd Aquarium and Navy Pier. I rented a condo on the beach in Pompano and we had fun in the sun. He went to Disneyland, DisneyWorld, and Sea World several times before he was three. But when my daughter was born I found it got a lot harder to travel. I tried to squeak it in but it was getting exhausting. I found I was pregnant with a third child while on a 1 month trip to the East Coast and I thought I might never travel again.
It is a goal of mine to be able to take my business and my family mobile for several months of the year. Since my kids will be in public schools we pretty much have only the summer to work with but I dream of running off with them for 3 months out of the year to see new, exotic places and be able to maintain my business at the same time. To do that AND take my hubby with me…we need to be able to save enough every year to fund our summer holiday and maintain two homes during that time. I have a marketer friend that spends 6 months of the year in Costa Rica so it can be done….I just need to keep planning.
I found an encouraging article today that lists the Top 10 Destinations for Independent Travelers in 2008. It even lists a few places where you can get hotel accommodations for less than $10 a night.
- Buenos Aires, Argentina
- Budapest, Hungary
- Morocco
- Chiang Mai, Thailand
- Ethiopia
- Queenstown, New Zealand
- Sicily
- Jordan
- Belize
- Nepal
Can you imagine having the freedom to spend 3 months or more in Thailand or Nepal? If you can dream it you can do it right?
If this became a reality for you where would you go?
Ireland (I could stay with friends for free) and
Italy which has always called to my soul.
Hawaii (who wouldn’t want to go there?), Italy (husband’s family is there), Ireland (Always wanted to go there…I’m part Irish), or Australia (because it looks like fun lol).
For the short term, I’d love to just travel around the states and enjoy the beauty here.
Ahh, that would be a dream come true! I love going on holidays, and my hubby and I try to take our kids away for at least a week in the summer. We’ve never left our province or country, but maybe someday.
Girl, definately put Ireland on the list, I’m waiting here for you
I meant to say Girls there LOL
One of my colleagues is from Ireland – he shares his love for Ireland (and Gaelic!) with me all the time…plus there’s a family connection (mom’s grandfather) so Ireland is on my list too!
