One of the more fun features or modules on Squidoo is the poll module. It allows you to create a poll with a question or a statement and then multiple choices for your visitors to choose from. But did you know you you can hyperlink the poll choices to Amazon products…increasing your chances for affiliate sales?

It is actually very easy to do. Just login to your Amazon affiliate control panel, choose the appropriate tracking ID, and then start creating product links. Copy a text only version of the link and where Squidoo directs you to “Enter your poll response options” you enter your Amazon link instead of plain text.

Here is a picture of the process:

And here is a picture of the poll after the page is published and you get some voters. The best part about this trick is that the full affiliate commission goes to me. I don’t share it 50/50 with Squidoo as I would with many other modules.

In case you were wondering these two images are from different Squidoo Lenses. Hope this helps you boost your Squidoo profit!

If you haven’t yet heard SquidWho is an awesome new feature at Squidoo. Basically you enter a name and it searches the Internet far and wide and pulls in graphics and content to fill the modules for you. It takes information from Wikipedia, Yahoo! news, Flickr, Amazon.com, adds a few polls and voila…a new lens. If you like what they come up with you can claim the lens and it is yours. Of course then you have the opportunity to spice it up a bit with your own ideas and content. You could have a killer lens about just about anyone in minutes. I gave it a test drive and entered Leonardo DiCaprio. This was the resulting page that I ended up claiming. Pretty nifty!

It was pretty addicting so I went ahead and created a page about two others: Al Gore and Rachel Carson. This is an awesome feature!

Leave me a comment and let me know if you make any!

Take a look at my latest lens. It is about Green Living. It took about an hour to build initially and personally I think it is quite good. I will be spending the next few weeks tweaking and monetizing. This time around I tried out the Amazon Plexo module which allows visitors to vote their favorite products to the top of the list.

Stop by and rate my lens if you get the chance!

Also I wanted to let you know about another module that has just been added…a Wikipedia module. I used this module on the green living lens above and basically it pulls in the intro and the attached image to the article that you specify with keywords. It is a great new way to add to the content on your lenses. Go the bottom of the aforementioned lens to see it in action.

So are you ready to Squidoo? Use this link to get started and after you make $15.00 Squidoo will give us both and extra $5.00!

Many of the built-in Squidoo modules actually help to monetize your lenses. With the eBay and Amazon modules for example you create a section for related products to appear on your lens and whenever a visitor clicks through and buys one of those recommended products…you and Squidoo share the commission. This is the same with Google AdSense. The Adsense ads appear in various places above and below your lens content and when visits click on these ads you get a portion if the profit. There are many other modules available to monetize your lens too..cafepress, KB Toys, Netflix, Overstock, Buy.com. The Starbucks store…many options.

Aside from the shared lens commissions, Squidoo lenses are also very easy to monetize yourself. Squidoo is very lenient about allowing you to use third party advertising on your lens. You can promote your own websites, your own products, or promote your favorite affiliate products. You just work those links into the content and you get paid when visitors buy. You can also use your lens to prompt visitors to sign up for your mailing lists so that you can pitch your products or services to them at a later time.

I made my first two large affiliate sales through a Squidoo lense within 3 weeks of creating it. And I also get Squidoo commissions every month. I make a relatively modest amount….I think I have 6 very targeted niche lenses. But there are some Internet Marketers who have 100 lenses or more. One man that comes to mind is Lewis Smile. He has quite a few lenses and I was just reading one of those about why he loves Squidoo so much and he mentions that Squidoo just paid for his new laptop at 2500.00 so the potential to make a lot of money is definately there.

It is very easy to build a squidoo lens in about 15 minutes. The creation process is automated as is the monetization process. So for a newbie that has no idea how to design a web site or start a blog….a squidoo lens is a great alternative and a great place to get their feet wet. They can start earning money immediately after they have build a lens and make even more as they learn how to add affiliate links and build a better lens.

There are more an more web sites cropping up to imitate this system..hubpages comes to mind. But I have seen nothing that has the sophistication of Squidoo and Squidoo pages can rank very well with search engines and draw good traffic. For someone just getting started this is a painless way to get started.

Also when you have just published a new web site or blog It is helpful to get incoming links and Squidoo pages are a great way to accomplish this. You can link tot your other web sites as much as you like.

It allows you to create pages or as Squids call them…lenses… about any topic you wish. It is a cross between a blog, a mini site, and a MySpace page and each lens is hosted on the social networking community of Squidoo. It allows you to easily and quickly create web pages or lenses about any and all topics that interest you or that you have some expertise in.

For instance, you may have some information to share about red shoes but you don’t want to set up an entire web site about them. Squidoo gives you the option of building a lens about red shoes fairly quickly and then with different lens modules you make it interesting and attractive AND since Squidoo offers many ways to monetize your lens you can make some extra cash too. There are MANY benefits to using Squidoo but he best one has to be its ease of use in getting what is really a mini web site up and published quickly and with quality.

Another bonus, Squidoo shares profit with you. You can pocket the money you make or you can donate it to charity.

How do You Create a Lens?

Squidoo lenses are very easy to make. Even if you are a newbie to creating web pages and you have never blogged before…you can have a lens up and running in as little as 15 minutes.

Squidoo lenses are made up of “modules”. And there dozens of modules to choose from. There are modules for making lists, text modules – where you write about the subject of your lens, a module of links to related web pages or products, a poll module, a YouTube videos module…. There are modules for Amazon and Ebay auctions. With a little knowledge of the module system, you can have your lens built in no time at all.
